Irish Chaplaincy (IC) Purpose:

To be a leading and innovative charity that provides high quality services and support to excluded, vulnerable and isolated Irish emigrants in Britain. The IC is one of the oldest Irish welfare charities in Britain and our aim remains to galvanise the whole Irish community to work together to improve the lives of those most vulnerable of Irish emigrants and ensure that no member of our community is forgotten.


Job Purpose:

The Community Outreach Manager will play a key role in delivering and developing community-based services for Irish people in London, grounded in the Chaplaincy's Catholic ethos and commitment to dignity, compassion, and social justice.

The post-holder will hold a caseload, provide supervision to outreach staff and volunteers, and contribute to the strategic development and sustainability of outreach services, including partnership-building and support for fundraising and development activity.


Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery & Casework

  • Manage a caseload of Irish clients, providing practical, emotional, spiritual, and signposting support, around issues such as health, loneliness, housing, and social exclusion.
  • Carry out outreach work in people's homes and community settings, including care homes, day centres, parishes, and other partner organisations.
  • Undertake assessments, support planning, advocacy, and referrals in line with organisational policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case records and contribute to monitoring and reporting requirements.

Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Irish community networks, Catholic parishes and agencies, statutory services, and voluntary sector partners.
  • Represent the charity at relevant forums, events, and meetings.
  • Identify emerging needs within the Irish community and adapt outreach activity accordingly

Line Management & Volunteer Coordination

  • Line manage the Community Outreach Worker, providing supervision, support, and performance management.
  • Recruit and support volunteers, ensuring they are effectively integrated into outreach services.
  • Foster a supportive, values-led team culture aligned with the charity's mission and Catholic ethos.

Service Development & Fundraising Support

  • Contribute to the development of outreach services, including new projects and initiatives responding to community need.
  • Support fundraising and development activity by contributing information for funding applications, reports, and impact data.
  • Assist with piloting new approaches and partnerships to extend the reach and sustainability of services.

Ethos, Safeguarding & Governance

  • Uphold and promote the ethos and values of the charity in all aspects of work, ensuring services are inclusive, respectful, and non-judgemental.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with safeguarding, health and safety, equality, and data protection policies.
  • Participate in organisational planning, training, and reflective practice.

Organisational Contribution

  • Participate in management meetings, case reviews, appraisals, supervision, and team development sessions.
  • Undertake training and professional development as agreed with your line manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and perform other reasonable duties as requested.

Budget Responsibilities: Management and reporting of project budget in line with IC financial guidelines and in consultation with the CEO.


Skills and Competence

Essential

  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults in a community or outreach setting-minimum 3 years experience.
  • Proven experience of managing a caseload and delivering person-centred support.
  • Experience of line managing staff and volunteers-minimum 3 years experience.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Well-developed planning, organisational, and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Proven decision-making skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively in complex environments, building networks across diverse groups, and managing cross-divisional projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Understanding of and commitment to participatory approaches to community work.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and GDPR requirements.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Ability to obtain a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Commitment to the values and ethos of a Catholic charity.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the Irish community or a faith-based organisation.
  • Experience contributing to service development or fundraising activity.
  • Knowledge of London-based statutory and voluntary sector services.
  • Relevant qualification in social care, community work, or a related field.

Other demands of the role:

The post holder will be required to work in the Chaplaincy office at least one day per week.
