Volunteering
We have a great team of volunteers at the Irish Chaplaincy. Would you like to join them?
We have opportunities available for volunteer befrienders for older Irish people, volunteer admin workers, and volunteer prison visitors. We also have two vacancies on our board of trustees. Or perhaps you could you organise a fundraising event for us in your local community or come and sing and play music at one of our events?
For most of our volunteer opportunities, no formal skills or qualifications are necessary as we can provide full training, support and ongoing guidance. However we do need volunteers who are reliable, who can commit for a minimum period of 3 months and who are non-judgmental in their approach to working with people. All out of pocket expenses will be paid and a free criminal record check (CRB) will also be processed for you.
So if you would like to learn or develop your skills, join a lively staff team and give back to the Irish community, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
To find out more about volunteering with us please contact Paul Raymond on 0207 482 5528 or email volunteers@irishchaplaincy.org.uk .
Why Michelle thinks you should volunteer...
Michelle, Volunteer Fundraiser, North London
'Hello my name is Michelle and I am a volunteer at the Irish Chaplaincy, working mainly in the Older Person's Project, but I also get involved in fundraising too. Recently we had a great day out at the Irish Festival in Peckham Rye, where we had a Tombola Stall with many great prizes. Many people were drawn to our stall at the festival, and many had not seen a Tombola for years! When talking to people in the wider Irish community, I found that many did not know about our sevices for older Irish people, prisoners and Travellers. The money we made on the day went towards funding this new website so that hopefully more people will get to know about ICB and be able to be involved. I got involved as a volunteer with the Irish Chaplaincy as I wanted to work with the older Irish people. I get great joy working as a volunteer, it gives me an opportunity to make a difference to people's lives in our community. I would highly recommend volunteering as it is fun and fulfilling and it allows you to experience masses of opportunities not usually available to you."
